ERIC WHITACRE'S VIRTUAL CHOIR

It began in 2009 as a simple experiment in social media when one young woman recorded a video of herself singing “Sleep” and shared it on YouTube. Moved by the video, Eric responded by sending a call out to his online fans to purchase the recording by Polyphony, Stephen Layton's choir, record themselves singing along to it, and upload the result. The first Virtual Choir was created.
There is also a Global Youth Choir, encouraging children as young as two to rehearse, sing and participate in a global event thanks to the wonders of technology. You cannot fail to be moved and inspired by this.

HOW DOES WHITACRE’S VIRTUAL CHOIR INSPIRE US?
The power of the virtual choir’s performance is evidence that technology can overcome distance and unite people with a common purpose. For example, the potential for an organisation like Unilever in finding effective ways to bring teams together, spread out all over the globe, is hugely valuable.
We find ways to do just that. Working with Unilever’s Global Media Team we harness the best of technology to capture the imagination of marketeers around the world. It’s not always easy and we’ve sometimes stretched the technology to the limits, but through interactive platforms, we have shared inspiration and success stories, allowed regional teams to collaborate on projects and celebrated brilliant results.
These events start conversations, they engage people by making the ‘big ideas’ relevant, exciting and involving which means everyone moves forward with energy and new ideas.
